Vision and Future Challenges for AAFL
The current Vision Statement is:
"To be the foremost Australian company successfully marketing premium alpaca products and fibre, both nationally & internationally."
And the simple Mission Statement is:
"To achieve and sustain profitability from FY08-09."
Particular challenges relate to the high costs and difficulties of processing alpaca fleece in Australia - especially in comparison to lower costs and thus lower wholesale prices overseas. In addition to the necessity for prices paid to Australian growers to be competitive with world market prices, this has led AAFL to shipping raw fleece to Peru for processing. The closure of the only small-scale commercial exotic fibre scouring facility in Australia is a complicating factor that affects all other producers of rare fine yarns too.
Another 2008 challenge affecting international trading is the high level of financial uncertainty and volatility world-wide, especially rapid fluctuations in exchange rates.
